I arrived in The Netherlands in November 2021 and enrolled in a Taalschool to learn Dutch so that I could assimilate into the society. Whilst the Taalschool provided a good basis I found it difficult to navigate the different accents, cultures and motivations for being at the Taalschool. I personally found this was slowing my learning and frustrating me in my process to learn the language at the pace at which I wanted to learn. When I started lessons with Daphne and noticed an immediate improvement in my dutch and confidence to interact with dutch people. The difference being that she explains the language and cultural context. So each week I could build on the previous week based on the effort and knowledge I had accumulated. Daphne uses resources that are challenging and enable to you to learn Dutch at a level where you are able to hold an adult conversation (verbal and written) and make yourself understood. Daphne also creates a safe and fun environment with an understanding of the differences between Afrikaans and Dutch, making her a logical choice for South Africans wanting to learn and improve their Dutch and assimilate in to The Dutch way of life. Within 18 months I was able to successfully write and complete my NT2 -B2 exams, enabling me to manage a team of 9 people and also conducting meetings in Dutch. I now have the confidence to interact with Dutch people (in Dutch) on daily basis. If you are wanting to assimilate in to the “Dutch maatschapij” I would highly recommend Daphne!
