Dutch Connection Events
We recently hosted a series of immersive full-day experiences for students learning Dutch as a second language – unforgettable and inspiring days filled with history, culture, language, and connection. Watch this space for our next events.
The Netherlands & the United States
Leiden
The American group gathered in Leiden, where they were warmly welcomed by Daphne’s father, René, who led a fascinating guided tour through the historic city. Through engaging storytelling and historical insight, he brought to life the deep connections between the Netherlands and the United States, focusing especially on the Pilgrim Fathers who once lived in Leiden before their journey to the New World. For many participants, history suddenly felt vivid, personal, and deeply meaningful.
The Netherlands & South Africa
Amsterdam
Two days later, the South African group explored Amsterdam with Daphne as their guide. Students were immersed in the rich history of the city, discovering the era of the VOC and the longstanding ties between the Netherlands and South Africa. Walking along the canals, participants uncovered how trade, language, and culture shaped both nations and their shared heritage.
The response to these events was overwhelmingly positive, with participants describing the experiences as inspiring, educational, welcoming, and unlike traditional language learning. More than lessons, these were meaningful days of discovery, cultural connection, and shared enthusiasm for language and history.
We look forward to hosting many more events in the future and continuing to create a warm, engaging space where language learners, expats, and culture enthusiasts can connect through history, storytelling, and shared experiences.
